DARK SKY POLICY
Some of the best things about living in Seaview are the peace and feelings of living so close to nature. We are lucky enough to live in a place with amazing star-gazing. Part of what makes that possible is our lack of light pollution. We have an informal but neighborly policy of limiting out exterior night-time lighting. Security is important and our close-knit community and neighborly efforts help keep us safe. We understand and encourage the use of motion sensitive security lights instead of leaving lights on all night. We also hope that we can all set our lights so that they don’t project past our properties. A simple alignment or shading of a light can make a huge difference to your neighbors. Yellow, lower output “bug-lights” don’t attract as many insects and are less intense. There are also lots of durable and affordable LED lights available that last a long time and use less electricity.
It’s nice that we can all appreciate the sense of peace that less light pollution means. If you need help adjusting your lights or advice as to Dark Skies feel free to contact board@kseca.org, we cannot enforce the policies but we can ask your neighbors to be more considerate.
As always please wear lighter or reflective clothes and/or carry a light if walking our roads at night. Our rains often make it hard for drivers to see night-time pedestrians.
