KSECA Renaming Meeting
Aloha kākou,
All are invited to the next community meeting to explore the name/renaming of our ʻāina on Thursday, Dec 5, at 4 pm in the upper park pavilion.
We are honored to have a young Hawaiian guest from Puna who will be joining us. Noʻeau Woo-OʻBrian, an instructor at Hawai‘i Community College, Ola Hāloa Center for Hawai‘i Lifestyles, was born and raised in Waiakahiʻula (the subdivision known as Hawaiian Beaches). He has a masters degree in Hawaiian Studies and is the kahu of the ancient village of Waiakahiʻula.
He will talk about his journey to get Kahakai Beach Park renamed to Waiakahiʻula Beach Park, and most importantly, the impact the name reclamation has had on young people and the community.
For an introduction to Noʻeau, check out his YouTube channel and this video he made about the history of Hawaiian Beaches/Shores: https://youtu.be/V4kg0HsKOHY
Please share and spread the word to anyone who might be interested. Mahalo!
